How Hypnosis Helps You Keep the Weight Off

Filed under: Hypnosis Weight Loss — Dan and/or News Agents @ 10:59 am

Most individuals are aware that healthy eating habits and regular exercise are not only good for them, but will benefit them in the future with decreased health risks and increased self-esteem. Even so, it has been estimated that only 20% of individuals who are overweight and have been successful in weight loss manage to maintain their success long term.

As was suggested in the last post, hypnosis not only helps you take off the initial pounds, it can help you keep them off.

Initially it is important to address any physical circumstances that may put one at risk for weight gain. These may include:

Antibiotic exposure which alters the quality of one’s gut bacteria

Exposure to chemicals including bisphenol A, DDT, and phthalates

Genetics

Hormonal conditions such as Cushing’s Disease, hypothyroidism, and PCOS,

Lack of quality sleep which affects insulin and other hormones that impact appetite, eating behaviors, and weight gain.

Lifestyle patterns: eating too much, making unhealthy food choices, and moving too little

Medications including some antidepressants, anti-seizure medicines, and corticosteroids

Prenatal factors such as gestational diabetes, maternal overweight, and maternal smoking

Each of these may be addressed with hypnosis.

Hypnosis can:

Develop an “ally” of sorts to support you in making challenging, but necessary changes

Enhance self-confidence using motivational language

Assist in creating a clear picture of a future goal that has been achieved and access the subsequent positive feelings one might have

Access and work with the part of your unconscious that is willing to make a change

Ease any existing anxiety due to change

Help you recognize why you may have needed to use weight as a tool.

Reassign the previous “need” for eating as something that is no longer relevant

Help you “see” your new, healthier tools for coping with stressful situations

Aid in making the use of your new tools more automatic by mentally practicing their usage

In short, hypnosis – under the guidance of a qualified professional – can act as a very powerful tool in your quest to not only lose those extra pounds, but keep them off for many years to come.

Why Hypnotherapy Works for Weight Loss

Filed under: Hypnosis Weight Loss — Dan and/or News Agents @ 2:49 pm

By this time, you’re probably pretty much convinced that hypnosis can work with you in successfully achieving weight loss. Ever wonder how it works?

Hypnosis not only works on your behavioral patterns and unconscious behavior, but your feelings as well. Think about it. Wouldn’t you rather feel that you want to eat healthy food instead of thinking you have to? Skillfully used, hypnosis can help people to effortlessly feel like making more beneficial choices without feeling dissatisfied. This doesn’t mean you’ll never have to use willpower, but the process can certainly become easier.

In essence, hypnosis works to retrain the brain and as a matter of fact, a connection has been found between treatment time and results, indicating that the results due to hypnosis can be magnified and extended over time. This has proven hypnosis to be an extremely effective tool in the area of weight loss maintenance as well.

Here are some great methods that may be used during your hypnosis sessions that can be helpful in your weight loss endeavors:

Inciting a desire to eat healthy

Increasing fat-burning metabolism

Applying metaphors to inspire change

Proposing positive visualizations

Suggestions to focus on health and positive change

Focusing on the differences between healthy and unhealthy (processed carbs, sugars, chemically altered) foods

Using disassociation in which the unconscious mind is directed to work with the body despite the conscious mind’s patterns

Employing disassociation to allow the individual to see their future self: slim, healthy, and happy

Basically, hypnosis works for weight loss because over time the way you view food on a subconscious level is subtly and consistently changed without any feelings of deprivation or dissatisfaction.

Top 10 Ways Hypnosis Can Help You Lose Weight – Once and for all!

Filed under: Hypnosis Weight Loss — Dan and/or News Agents @ 10:05 am
  1. You already have the answer. Deep inside you already know how to lose weight. It’s just a matter of building your confidence. And with a few diet-altering hypnotic suggestions and a little practice you’ll be able to achieve your weight loss goal effortlessly.
  2. If you believe it, you will see it. In general, people accomplish what they believe they can accomplish. Even with regard to hypnosis, it’s important to have a clear expectation that you will be helped.
  3. Dwell on the positive. Rather than putting your focus on what will happen if you don’t lose weight, think of all the great things that will occur when you do and positive hypnotic suggestions can help you to move forward in an upbeat, expectant fashion.
  4. If you can see it, it will come. Much like an athlete in training, visualizing your success can make your goal seem even more achievable. Imagine truly enjoying healthy food. Need a little help? That’s where hypnosis comes in.
  5. Food cravings be gone! Hypnotherapists regularly employ the use of symbolic imagery using counter symbols to help you stay clear of “dangerous” territory and stay on the path to health.
  6. Two strategies are better than one. A truly winning combination is when hypnotherapy is used in conjunction with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). A simple example of CBT is keeping a food diary. This simple exercise in raising awareness can be a key component to lasting change.
  7. Modify: again, and again, and again. Simply put, modify your highest calorie craving. For example: Love indulging in a pint of ice cream? How about substituting frozen yogurt? And once that’s a no-brainer, how about going from a pint to a cup?
  8.  Accept it. It’s survival of the fattest! No suggestion is powerful enough to override our survival instinct. In case of famine, we’re hardwired to retain our fat. Until your body gets enough healthy food calories it will cling to your bad food habits.
  9. Practice makes perfect. One visit to the gym will not produce a bodybuilder’s physique any more than one hypnosis session will shape up your diet. It’s important to remember that personal commitment is key when your goal is a behavioral change.
  10.  It’s a relapse…Congrats! Hypnosis views a relapse as an opportunity, not a catastrophe. This is an opportunity to learn why you overindulged and how to make better choices in the future.

Weight Loss by Memorial Day with Hypnosis

Filed under: Hypnosis Weight Loss — Dan and/or News Agents @ 1:55 pm

It’s true! By Memorial Day you really could be well on your way to an appreciable amount of weight loss!

In Holiday Weight Loss with Hypnosis there were many studies listed that validated the successful use of hypnosis in achieving weight loss. And our following post gave a much more in-depth look at what hypnosis can do for your weight loss goals. For example, just imagine being thirty times more effective in losing weight and having continued success even after two years!

It’s incredible, isn’t it? And not only will hypnosis help you attain your weight loss goals but it can actually become an effortless process too.

Here’s something else you might want to take into consideration. In January of 2005 Tufts-New England Medical Center published an article in the Journal of the American Medical Association documenting a study in which it was found that the type of diet you follow isn’t as important as actually following the diet.

During this one-year study160 people were split into four groups. Each group followed one of four diet plans:

  1. Weight Watchers (low calorie)
  2. The Zone Diet (low glycemic index)
  3. The Ornish Diet (low fat)
  4. The Atkins Diet (low carb)

In the final outcome, it was found that while each one of these diets actually worked (when the participants stayed on them), less than 25 % of the individuals stayed on their diet plan for the full year!

So, what does hypnosis have to do with weight loss? Very simply put, hypnosis is a relaxed state of focused attention. It can help to change both psychological and physiological patterns that willpower alone just can’t alter. Hypnosis then, is a powerful tool when it comes to altering patterns that stand in the way of you staying on your diet and ultimately achieving your weight loss goals.

Using Hypnosis to Cope with Nicotine Withdrawal

Filed under: Quit Smoking Hypnosis — Dan and/or News Agents @ 10:37 am

If you choose to quit cigarette smoking, the reality of the situation is that you will go through some form of nicotine withdrawal. It can’t be helped. Nicotine is an addictive substance.

Nicotine withdrawal is actually a group of symptoms that occur within the first few weeks of decreasing or quitting the intake of nicotine altogether. The most documented symptoms include anger, anxiety, cravings, depression, hunger, impatience, interrupted sleep, irritability, lack of concentration, restlessness, and weight gain. However, there are many other forms withdrawal symptoms can take as well. The strongest symptoms usually occur in the first few days and begin to lessen over a period of two to four weeks.

But here’s the good news. Hypnosis may actually help to alleviate these withdrawal symptoms. As a matter of fact, many individuals come out of hypnosis thoroughly and permanently satisfied on every level that they will never light up another cigarette again.

However, hypnosis cannot make you do anything that you don’t want to do. The most important factor is that you have a strong commitment to quit. You really have to want it.

Habits reside in the subconscious will power alone is not always effective. Since hypnosis addresses the subconscious, here’s what it can do for you:

1. remove patterns of habit

2. lower or eliminate the craving for nicotine

3. offer healthy methods in relaxation for stress reduction

4. relieve or eliminate additional withdrawal symptoms

5. reinforce a sense of wellbeing and success

The bottom line is that hypnosis can be a powerful aid in helping you achieve your goal of becoming a non-smoker. It is safe, effective, has no side effects, can help restore your health, and keep the money you used to spend on cigarettes in your pocket!

Excuses Be Gone with Hypnosis!

Filed under: Quit Smoking Hypnosis,Quit Smoking Without Gaining Weight Hypnosis — Dan and/or News Agents @ 3:47 pm

So far so good….

You’ve become aware of and accepted all the great health benefits that can be yours once you’ve quit cigarette smoking.

You’ve identified the various therapies (including hypnosis) that are readily available to help you achieve success.

And you’ve laid out your plan and made the necessary arrangements before starting your quest to become cigarette free.

Now let’s get rid of those excuses. You know, those crippling enabling beliefs that will hold you captive in your present state. They’re not your friends and will only serve to sabotage your efforts. You may not even know you have excuses, let alone what they are. Here are a few of the more common excuses and why you really shouldn’t let them be relevant:

  1. Quitting cigarette smoking leads to weight gain. It’s true that nicotine can boost your metabolism so if you decide to actually eat a meal rather than skip it and smoke, you’ll probably gain a few pounds…. initially. However, there’s no reason for this to become an ongoing occurrence. If you remember in Holiday Weight Loss with Hypnosis there have been specific studies done proving hypnosis is highly effective, not only with regard to quitting smoking, but also in keeping the weight off at the same time.
  2. The damage is done. But if you read the April 6th post you already know that damage can be reversed
  3. It’s the only way to alleviate stress. It may be your present habit, but you can absolutely replace it with a better-for-you choice (and hypnosis can help here too).
  4. Nicotine products do as much damage as cigarettes without the enjoyable side effects. Cigarettes contain 4,000 other compounds (including at least 80 carcinogens). By substituting a regulated dose of nicotine for cigarettes you’ll immediately eliminate unnecessary toxins from your system

Do any of these excuses sound the least bit familiar? The big question is how to go about freeing yourself from them. Yet again, hypnosis may be your best choice.

So how does hypnosis work?

Very simply put, hypnosis works to re-educate the unconscious mind, giving you the ability to control the situation at hand, which you may otherwise not have been able to do consciously on your own.

A valuable tool indeed!

Quitting Cigarettes? Let’s Get Started with Hypnosis!

Filed under: Hypnosis,Quit Smoking Hypnosis — Dan and/or News Agents @ 2:10 pm

OK, you’ve not only decided it’s time to quit smoking, you are absolutely committed to a positive outcome. Congratulations! That’s awesome!

The next step is to figure out the method you want to use. It won’t be easy, but you’re up to the challenge! And keep in mind that hypnosis could be your best ally.

Here are the top methods presently employed when withdrawing from cigarettes:

Alternative Therapies – This is the category that acupuncture, hypnosis, and meditation fall under. These therapies address both mental and physical habits that you have developed pertaining to smoking. While some people have used these methods alone and accomplished outstanding results, they are excellent complements to other treatments as well.

Behavioral Therapy – In this therapy you will work with a counselor to identify “triggers” and create a plan to deal with them.

Cold Turkey – With this method there is no outside support; no aids, therapy, or medicines of any kind.

Medicine – This includes medications prescribed by your doctor such as buproprion and varenicline to ease cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy -  This treatment comes in the form of gum, inhalers, lozenges, patches, and sprays. These items will deliver the nicotine your body is craving in a much safer form. Gradually you’ll decrease your nicotine consumption and hopefully give it up altogether. Keep in mind that if you’re under the age of eighteen, you’ll need a doctor’s permission in order to use this type of therapy.

Support Therapies -  These therapies employ smoking-cessation counselors and stop-smoking support groups.

Treatment Combinations -  Exactly what it says. You may use one, two, or any number of the methods listed above in conjunction with each other.

While some of these methods may work better than others, the real question (that only you can answer) is which of these are you going to stick to? And once you’ve decided, rest assured that hypnosis is another tool at your disposal that may address any of your identified triggers and help you not only gain success, but do so on your terms.

Memory Improvement

Filed under: Hypnosis — Dan and/or News Agents @ 10:34 am

All of us have memory lapses at times but if you’re noticing this more often than you’d like, you may want to consider hypnosis.

In order to understand how the use of hypnosis may be used to improve your memory, let’s consider how memory actually works:

  1. First, a memory is created and stored.
  2. While not fully understood, experts hypothesize that there are three main types of memory, each lasting for different lengths of time: sensory memory, short-term memory, and long-term memory.
  3. Sensory memory continues for 1/5 to 1/2 second after perception through the five senses.
  4. Short-term memory (STM) will last for eighteen to thirty seconds, unless rehearsed in that time frame. (Example: a phone number)
  5. Long-term memory (LTM) is stored indefinitely and recalled as needed. When access to this stored information is obstructed or even blocked entirely, poor memory results.

Now, let’s look at how hypnosis works to remove obstructions and/or blockages with regard to memory.

Keeping in mind that problems may occur in the storage and/or retrieval of the memory information, it is important to remember that hypnosis brings one to a semi-conscious state in which the subject’s attention is concentrated on a specific area, slows down thinking, enhances the imagination, and averts distractions. Simply said, employed by a skilled practitioner, hypnosis can aid in focusing on each memory type, memory storage, and its recall.

It is also important to remember that in conjunction with your hypnosis sessions there are very real, very productive things that you can do on your own to improve your memory. For example:

  1. Stay positive. We believe what we tell ourselves. If you tell yourself you have a poor memory, you will surely create that situation.
  2. Brush up on your attention skills. Creating a strong focus may help to improve your memory.
  3. Play memory games such as trivia or jigsaw puzzles. Our minds need exercise in order to stay sharp.
  4. Anxiety and depression can cause poor concentration, leading to poor memory. Be aware of your emotional health.

Hypnosis Can Help You Win in the Battle Against Junk Food

Filed under: Hypnosis — Dan and/or News Agents @ 9:55 pm

junk food

noun

food that has low nutritional value, typically produced in the form of packaged snacks needing little or no preparation.1

Junk food…. we hear the term often enough but have you ever really assessed your diet to see how much of your intake might actually fall into the “junk food” category?

Almost everyone’s diet includes some junk food. It’s the junk food ratio to healthy nutritious food we need to be concerned with. Why? Large quantities of empty calories can lead to weight gain at the very least and poor health if carried to an extreme.

So what to do? Well the obvious answer is to cut back on that junk food intake. The problem is it’s not as easy as it sounds (If it was, everyone could do it!)

The good news is that hypnosis can be a very real option in helping you change your eating patterns and cut back on your junk food intake, no matter how, why, when, or where you began your unhealthy pattern of junk food eating. Rather than focusing on the “why” you are eating junk food, hypnotherapy focuses on the “how” you are thinking about junk food. Very simply put, it answers the question of what junk food means to you and how that meaning can be changed so that you start making informed, healthy decisions with regard to your food choices.

And once you gain an understanding of how you observe junk food, on average, within a minimal number of sessions, your eating patterns will change painlessly and significantly. Just imagine craving carrot sticks and whole grains as opposed to those greasy burgers and fries! Sound too good to be true? Not so! With the help of hypnosis, you too can become a former junk food lover with more energy and vitality than you could have imagined!
